British forces and French allies prepared for final withdrawal from Port Said after a moonlit clash with Egyptian guerrillas. The U N planned phased entry of Egyptian police while Port Said remains under UN control and evacuation timing remained unsettled.

A coroner's jury ruled death unknown. Brown lived in Somerset since the 1940s and had gone south for his health. He left an estate possibly worth 250000. He served in WWI and WWII and is survived by relatives. Burial is in Allegheny cemetery.
A strike by 12 drivers of the Somerset Bus company began at 12:01 am, led by W I Lester of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Drivers seek higher wages from routes to Pittsburgh Johnstown and Cumberland with calls for 60 cents layover pay. no agreement reached since negotiations started in November.

Two youths aged 13 and 16 were caught inside Shellenburg's Gray Supply by a Somerset State Police substation officer after a nearby resident armed with a shotgun investigated a 6:30 p.m. disturbance. Nothing was taken though the pair had gathered pies cakes and gum. They were released to relatives for juvenile investigation.
In Johnstown a 71-year-old retired coal miner Emil Kulka shot his 56-year-old wife Mary in their South Fork home with a .32 caliber revolver and then shot himself three times. He was in serious condition at Memorial Hospital while she was listed in fair condition.

Police say trailer damage was about $2,000 and cargo loss $1,000 with no injuries reported.
Four high school students died when their car collided with the Santa Fe Chief at a private crossing near Santa Fe, Colorado. The train, Chicago to Los Angeles, was reported at 90 mph. two students Priscilla Medina and Dorothy Martinez wore corsages from a Y-teen dance.
A Somerset three year old, Richard Heiple, was taken to Somerset Community Hospital after he allegedly inhaled a vitamin pill through his nose. A doctor removed the pill and the child was discharged home. In a separate case, Dorothy Wiltrout of Somerset RD 5 received outpatient treatment for a knife wound to her left hand.
