Henry Keafer a 17 year old Somerset R C senior won 25 dollars for his essay in a Pennsylvania Electric Association contest. The award came at the high school with a second 25 dollar prize going to his FFA chapter. Henry wrote on The Most Important Uses of Electricity on the Farm in up to 500 words.

J C Penney Employees Get Extra Payment

The Somerset store employees heard from manager D O Thompson that 72 workers will receive a special payment equal to two weeks salary. The extra is not a Christmas bonus and applies to all staff with a year’s service except managerial and those on the prefixed earnings plan. Thompson estimates local payout about 1756 dollars.

B and O to light Holly Tree for holiday season

The B and O confirms a 50 foot holly tree along its main line near Jackson Maryland will be lit December 18 with President Roy B White lighting the switch. About 150 B and O Women’s Music club and Glee club singers directed by Dr James Allan Cash will perform with a brass and string ensemble. Thousands are expected to attend from Baltimore and nearby areas.

Wallace W. Hall, 89, of Chardon has filed to serve Geauga County as chief historian of elections from 1880 to today. He has preserved at least one ballot from every county certification batch.
