The Somerset American society editor requests callers in Somerset city or county to share information about entertaining at homes, parties, or visitors from out of town. Marriage announcements must be signed. anonymous notices will not be published.
The United France for Bre don Lik event and readings by R Getty mark a council meeting led by J Krebs. A Christmas tea at Mrs. Walker's home followed with hostess teams including Mrs. S S Warner and others. Decorations featured Fett greens and red lights, with Miss Hayled Night performing.
BPW members gathered at the Ferner Hotel for a Christmas dinner and business meeting attended by about 40 guests. Miss Charlotte Phillipoy presided as president and committee members planned fundraising events to buy an auditorium for Somerset schools with guest artists Pernice Armstrong and Johnnie Kirby expected for January.
The Rebecca Bible class of Friedens Lutheran met December 1 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Dewey Weimer Friedens. A Christmas program followed by a short business meeting featured gift exchange and an auction. Refreshments were served by Rev. and Mrs. Martin F. Foutz.
KR. E. Bender of Friedens is heir of the class. The long roster includes Mrs. FE E Bender and many others with Mrs. Melvin Bender and Mrs. Charles Meager among the names.
Mist Marty Albright daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Will of Somerset became the bride of Robert Durst son of Mr and Mrs Howard Durst of Queereek on Saturday morning November 29 at St Luke s Evangelical Lutheran church Cumberland MA. The Rev H Hall Sharp officiated. The bride wore a blue street length dress with black accessories and a corsage of red roses. Matron of honor Mrs Lee Will wore a black pink street length dress with black accessories and a corsage of red and pink roses. After the ceremony a reception at the Willimme followed. Mrs Durst is a Somerset High School graduate class of 1946 and Mr Durst is employed by Musser s bakery. The couple are now residing in Somerset and recently took a short wedding trip to Ohio.
Mrs Harald Fe Mus3er was named chairman of the nominating committee for PTA officers for next year at the high school cafeteria meeting Monday night. Attorney A M Matthews presided as president with Mrs M B Cargill and Alvin Shoemaker as other committee members. Routine business and a lunch were noted. Election of officers will be in January.
Mrs Lrah Cornell of Somerset won an automatic toaster in a Pennsylvania Electric company Christmas campaign. A release corrected earlier notes stating two toasters were possible. the Boswell store won the second toaster.
Miss Julia Mulhellen daughter of Mr and Mrs Blair Mulhellen of West Union street wed Francis Sieg in a ceremony reported from Cresson with details indicating a local engagement between prominent townspeople.
Mrs TE Deelp and son Chuckie and Miss Mary Trimpey return to York after a two week visit with Mrs John W Trimpey of East Catherine Street. Mrs Harold King and daughter Rebecca Jean move from Mt Pleasant to the Listie home of her parents. Mr and Mrs Edwin Good host relatives as they plan to join St King in Korea. Sioe and bride plan to live in Altoona after a Cres on wedding and reception attended by bride’s family and Mr and Mrs Richard Knapp.
The Somered Borsush Teachers' association held its annual Christmas dinner Monday at 6 15 p m in Casceeer Grove with carol singing led by Clarence Pyle and Rinara. Decorations featured snowmen and Christmas creeons as Carl Wengert presided over HISOC MATa. The Sons of the American Revolution planned their January meeting with a banquet and charter presentation at American Legion rooms.
The third annual magazine campaign by the American Legion Auxiliary of Berlin aims to raise funds to buy medical equipment for home use in emergencies free of charge. Contact Miss Pauline Pritz or Mrs Walter Johnson for needs. representatives will carry credentials signed by local and county officers. J C Penney Co plans a temporary second floor sales room at the Stein building while awaiting Penn Furniture vacancy through May. Remodeling of the Goodstein Balls block begins January with plan to add two stories and an elevator. multiple tenants have moved out.
The Rebekah Lodge 7217 holds a regular meeting Tuesday at 7 45 p m with a Christmas party and gift exchange. Presbyterian class meets Wednesday at 8 p m at Mrs Joy Mankamier 539 Ankeny Avenue with secret sisters revealed. Somerset county school directors convene Thursday in Court Room No 1 with Dr G G Grazier presiding in morning and Pvt W H Uhl of the Pennsylvania state police speaking, Robert M Carson and other speakers in the afternoon along with special music. Milk producers in York Lancaster area urge continued 20 cent price at a hearing in York. The wide use of high purity oxygen is noted for oxyacetylene metal cutting and welding.
The Berlin-Brothersvalley community holds a Christmas program on Friday December 19 at 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium with Rev S M Whet tone giving the invocation and a mixed chorus directed by Miss Betty Hay. A musical drama The Christmas Carol adapted from Dickens will be directed by Miss Evelyn Riggs and Miss Hay with a long list of participants. The article also notes Berlin Lighting Contest opens with prizes and entry details and announces a Farm Women meeting on December 17 at the home of Mr and Mrs Robert Weimer with a program led by Mrs J C Werner.
December donations to the Children's Aid Society list funds from the Single Binoy class of Grate KE U B church and cash gifts from Mrs W W Sipe and Mrs Louie Sipe plus a present for a girl.

Special music by Miss Ruth Weimer and Rev Martin F Foutz to close with Christmas carols. Mrs Charles Merril Jr hosted a bridge party for her club and husbands with three tables. Lions Club to sponsor a children’s Christmas party December ad at 2 pm in the borough building with Santa Claus. A son was born to Mr and Mrs William J Rhoads in Washington DC on December 8 at George Washington hospital. Holy Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid and Miriam class hold Christmas parties this week. Berlin area visits include Mrs Charles Ficher of Altoona and family to Mary Walker and Florence Walker with other local visitors from Johnstown and Cumberland.
