Winnie Ruth Judd Captured After Desert Escape to Yuma
Winnie Ruth Judd, the so called blonde tigress, was seized in a Main Street drug store in Yuma after a 200 mile desert trek from Phoenix. She demanded a new trial and insulin treatments, complained of mistreatment, and cried out in fear of being returned to the asylum. Sheriff J H Newman took her to the county jail where she admitted her identity. Judd, 34, had escaped the state hospital for the insane twice in five weeks and was involved in the 1931 murders of two women, Miss Leroy and Miss Samuelson, for which she was convicted and sentenced to hang.
