Wallington December 15 A coal industry letter to the United Mine Workers says miners will be asked to raise the work week from 35 to 40 hours after March 31 without wage increases. Operators urge a two year contract through April 1, 1939 with the current wage scale. They argue wage boosts since 1933 have raised the total wage bill by more than 250 million dollars annually without boosting bituminous coal production.

Josiah Specht 88 died Monday at 7 25 PM at his Kantner home from complications after a Sunday heart attack. A Somerset county merchant, lumberman, and longtime director of County Trust Company, he served as county commissioner and was a Berlin Mutual Fire Insurance director. Survived by his widow Nora and seven children, 38 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral Thursday at 2 PM from the Kantner home with Rev. L F Foltz officiating. interment in Stoystown IOOF cemetery.
