Biggest Pacific Airlift Sends 101st to Vietnam
The 101st Airborne Division begins two fresh brigades into Vietnam in the largest Pacific airlift of the war. The move, code named Eagle Thrust, brings 10,000 paratroops to Bien Hoa after a 9,783 mile flight from Fort Campbell. Westmoreland says the airlift adds manpower ahead of schedule, with about 475,000 of 525,000 promised by early next year already in country.

Infantrymen Repel Viet Cong Assault Near Saigon
About 150 Communist troops attacked a U.S. 25th Infantry bivouac 25 miles northwest of Saigon. U.S. forces repelled the attack with heavy fire. 39 communists were killed and 6 Americans wounded. A 12 killed pacification team commander amid ambushes near the village.

Practical Nurses To Get Diplomas
The first graduation of the Somerset Area School Practical Nursing Program will be held Friday, Dec. 15, at 8 p m in the Somerset Area Senior High School Auditorium. Craft Down On Mountain Top Pilot Critical
One man is dead and another badly burned in a late Monday night plane crash on Laurel Mountain near Seven Springs. Steve Hollerbach, 27, Chattanooga, died. Steve H. Corley, 26, also of Chattanooga, survived with serious burns. The craft crashed in sleet and fog after attempting to reach Somerset. wreckage found Tuesday morning, Corley remained by the burning fuselage until help arrived.

Mohawk Plane Crash Kills 34
The Mohawk Airlines jet crashed near Blossburg Pennsylvania last June 23 killing all 34 aboard. Transcript from the cockpit voice recorder shows the captain and first officer suspected trouble about three minutes before impact. Eyewitnesses described tail damage and a plume of smoke and fire as the plane disappeared into trees.
