A major blaze swept the Odd Fellows hall and Dr. Phillips residence in Ohiopyle late Sunday night. Telephone service was cut off as wires burned. Confluence, Connellsville and South Connellsville fire crews were dispatched after a call for aid around 11 p.m.

A Listie fire left two families homeless when a four room one story house burned Saturday night. The Miller and Dadco families were away, owner Frank Steinkirchner listed in Listie. Firemen arrived as the building burned half, water from a creek couldn’t save it. Loss estimated at 3500 dollars, 2000 for the building and 1500 for contents.

Mother and two children burn in Terre Haute cabin fire
A 29 year old mother Mrs Mildred Scarbrough and her two children Larry Eugene 7 and Leonard Wayne 16 months died when a three room cabin seven miles south of Terre Haute burned. Mrs Scarbrough helped her two daughters escape then re entered the blaze to try saving the others. Harold Scarbrough husband and father arrived home from work to learn of the tragedy.
