Soldier Richard Carter Guilty Of Involuntary Manslaughter
A seventeen year old serviceman Richard Carter of Cleveland Ohio was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter by a five woman seven man jury after a crash on the Pennsylvania turnpike November 10. Pvt Richard J Gatz also from Cleveland died in the collision. Carter said he was about 60 miles per hour lighting a cigarette when it dropped and he looked down causing him to lose control. The judge reserved sentencing citing juvenile court jurisdiction and ordered Carter to pay costs and return to his base.
