Tragedy in Carlisle Fire Kills Two Children
Two children William Stum Jr age four and Doris Stum age three died in a Greason home fire near Carlisle. Their mother Martha Stum 25 and grandfather William Kell 80 suffered third degree burns and were hospitalized after kerosene on a living room stove exploded. William Kell Sr., husband of Martha, was reportedly en route from Germany with the armed forces.

One Third of Pupils Absent From School
Somerset schools faced heavy absenteeism as about one third of pupils were out Tuesday due to flu. In the high school 372 of 970 were absent, up from 376 on Monday.
