Rescue workers sighted the final 10 bodies in the Robena No 3 mine near Carmichaels Pennsylvania bringing the total of the 37 miners killed in the explosion to 37. Officials said all victims died instantly from the blast and mass rescue operations ended.
Somerset Family YMCA treasurer Irvin Shapiro reported $2000 was received in the annual fund drive at Monday’s meeting in the Mary S Bisek er library. Plans include bringing in a state worker in March to discuss building program needs. Activities include adult fitness, a fall program with 15 participants, and a second session starting January 16 with registrations opening opening day.
Snow continued overnight with two inches more on Monday and drifting on rural roads. A rising barometer may signal a break in the storm as work crews move in to clear all roads by daylight.

His brother James said he showed no ill effects from the cold. The Indian Head Volunteer Fire Department organized a 40 man search after his party missed him mid afternoon. He explained the drifted snow hid a small creek and caused him to strike rocks.
In a Hindi broadcast to forces, Prime Minister Nehru cautioned that Peking’s cease fire may be a trick and urged continued alertness for renewed fighting in the Himalayas. He rejected Chinese terms and said India will disengage only if China pulls back to lines before their 1959 offensive.
The Communist party faces trial for refusing to register as a Soviet agent amid a 12-year federal conflict. Gus Hall and Benjamin Davis stand indicted for nonregistration under the 1950 internal security law, with possible fines and penalties outlined.
Angel C. Muniz, 36, of Youngstown Ohio pleaded guilty to two counts of failure to pay a federal wagering tax and was fined 1000 in U S District Court Judge Frank J Battisti ordered the fine paid within 30 days and placed Muniz on five years probation On the second count the 1000 fine was suspended during probation with a warning that it becomes permanent if further violations occur Two conspiracy counts were dropped by the government
Somerset Borough Council approved creating an arbitration board to handle garbage service complaints. Albert Graham will represent the council, Ray Pile will name an interested party, and a mutually agreed third member will join. The board will receive discuss and decide all complaints and keep records. The council also repealed an old curfew and discussed actions on a 1962 budget, municipal tax ordinances, and capital expenditures for a new borough building.
