60 Members Have Joined Welfare Unit
The Health and Welfare Council board of directors met in Court Room No 2 with James Mayer of Somerset Community Hospital warning Medicare will bring unforeseen problems crossing multiple health and welfare agencies. The council will coordinate plans to meet needs as about 60 sustaining memberships were reported and the drive runs to January 15 ahead of a January 20 full council luncheon.

James Landis Dies After Long Illness
Attorney James B. Landis 82 of South Center Avenue died Wednesday morning at home after a long illness. He was the oldest member of the Somerset County Bar Association since 1913, a former district attorney and county solicitor. A former teacher and high school principal, he later worked as a clerk at First National Bank and Philson National Bank in Berlin, and for local stores. Landis studied law in 1909, graduated Dickinson in 1912, and was admitted to practice in 1913. He served as District Attorney elected in 1927 and county solicitor from 1936 to 1955. The Bar Association honored him in 1962 for 50 years as an attorney. Born October 16, 1883, in Brothersvalley.
