Somerset County approves Amoco gas lease at airport

County commissioners approved a gas lease with Amoco Production Co for about 170 acres at the Somerset County Airport paying 5 per acre for year one and 1 per acre thereafter with a one eighth royalty if gas or oil is found. The lease limits drilling but uses a pooling approach with royalty sharing if resources are discovered.

Trucker Killed as Icy Road Sparks Fatal Crash

State police report one death and several minor injuries from icy road conditions in Somerset County as 11 inches of snow fell. James Jury age 51 of Hollsopple died after losing control of his tractor trailer on U S Route 30 near Stoystown. A four month NOAA review finds gaps in information and communication during July flood events in Johnstown and seven surrounding counties.
