East German Train Hijack Sparks West Berlin Escape
A group led by 28 year old railroad engineer Harry Deterling stole an East German locomotive and eight cars with 32 people, bypassed border guards at 50 mph, and halted inside West Berlin. Deterling and 23 passengers said they were refugees fleeing communism while seven others returned to the East. U.S. troops earlier moved into West Berlin without incident.

Ray Pfrogner Flown Home From Antarctica
Ray Pfrogner son of Mr and Mrs George O Pfrogner left in October for a year with the National Science Foundation as a geophysicist in Antarctica. He was flown to New Zealand for appendicitis surgery scheduled for November 29 but it was postponed and he is being sent home expected to arrive in the states this week. He reached Byrd Station November 3 reporting 26 degrees and pleasant summer weather.
