Three Leave Somerset Jail One In Hospital
Three men were released from Somerset county jail on Wednesday and one man was transferred to the state hospital. Ernest J. Osler, 49, Confluence, paid a fine and costs on a drunk and disorderly charge after being arrested Tuesday by state police. Ronald Wakefield, 21, Grantsville, Md., arrested Monday on a surety of the peace charge, was released by Justice of the Peace A. Maust of Salisbury. Conrad Tressler, 82, Meyersdale, was transferred to Somerset State hospital after an assault and battery charge was filed against him last Saturday by Meyersdale Squire Mark Swanhart.

An explosion at the Olin Mathieson Chemical Corp plant in East Alton Illinois killed at least two workers and injured 27 others. One man is missing and feared dead. Pieces of two bodies were recovered from the blast site. The blast sent a large fireball that damaged nearby buildings and shattered windows up to a mile away.
