Somerset Borough Council accepted Councilman Charles C. Whipple's resignation citing business duties that keep him away from meetings and approved five year terms for the new Planning Commission. Government says most call up complaints resolved

Shade Girl Burned By Stove Fire Hospitalized
An 11 year old Shade township girl Carol Lowry was hospitalized Monday for burns on the front of her body after flame from a cupboard above the stove set her sleeve ablaze. Neighbors Norman Will and Jorn Varvariee extinguished the fire and she was taken to Conemaugh Valley Memorial hospital in Johnstown. Carol had polio as a child and braces were removed recently.
