Legion Auxiliary Plans to Join Xmas Program in Somerset

The Windber Heating Company of Windber Somerset county filed proposed rate increases with the public utility commission. Effective Jan 29 1948 the schedule raises initial charges for 1000 cubic feet of building content from 26.5 cents to 32 cents for residential and similar classes. Heat used beyond the initial rate would be 58 cents per 1000 pounds instead of 38 cents. The minimum monthly charge rises from 2.59 to 3.60 dollars and a coal price adjustment clause is added.

Ten Men Injured In Gas Well Blast At Claysville
Ten men were injured today by an explosion and fire at a Manufacturers Light & Heat Co. gas well four miles north of Claysville in Washington county. The well in the Donegal storage pool had flowing 4,000,000 cubic feet this morning. Five of the injured were hospitalized as workers prepared to insert tubing.
