Two Young Women Die In Blaze In Morgantown
In Morgantown West Virginia a Beechurst Avenue fire killed three Rockwood and New Centerville youths and seriously injured another. Barbara Stoner 17 Rosemary Lieberum 18 Denise Marro died from smoke and soot inhalation. Shirley Hixson 18 and Mary Kerrigan escaped. Hixson suffered serious back and hip injuries. Eleven students lived in the residence owned by Stephen Callen Jr. Firefighters arrived quickly but the building burned to about 90 percent. Authorities, including Fire Chief Raeder and State Fire Marshal Smittle, investigate the blaze with origin details expected next week.

Melvin Arnold, president of Somerset Foundry and Machine, announced Friday that an 80 worker Local 527 strike ended with a new 40 month contract. Somerset mechanic William Dean Griffith, 24, of Rear 150 Plank Road, died after a truck rolled onto him while he and a co worker toiled under it with a torch to fix a brake. Coroner Wilbur D. Miller cited crushing chest injuries. he died at 4 10 p m at Somerset Community Hospital. Griffith was survived by his wife Paula Matthews.
