A furnace fire damaged the six room house of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Brennan at 128 East Saner Street in Somerset. Damage estimated between 5000 and 6000 dollars, interior burned and scorched. Firefighters battled for about an hour. one firefighter fainted from heat and smoke. The Brennans were away. the home is partially insured.

A New Baltimore man, Charles Hankinson aged 30, was wounded Wednesday afternoon about one mile south of New Baltimore while on a deer drive on D. A. Hankinson property. The bullet struck at the waist and lodged near the spine. Hankinson was listed in fair condition at Bedford Memorial hospital. Deputy Game Protector Edward Cox and state police are investigating the incident following a volley of eight to ten shots as a deer was flushed.
