North Vietnamese antiaircraft gunners shot down four U S Army helicopters on a Saturday mission about 10 miles southeast of Song Be near the Cambodian border. Five crewmen were killed and four wounded. total U S aircraft losses since 1961 reach 6153. North Vietnamese forces in the area suffered heavy casualties from U S air and artillery strikes. Seventy three North Vietnamese soldiers were killed. no American casualties reported.
At Camarillo State Hospital a beauty therapy program helps 35 withdrawn teen girls with emotional illness. The plan includes weekly bus trips to a private charm school for personality development, wardrobe makeovers, and individualized grooming lessons culminating in a hospital fashion show.

New York AP report details a Planned Parenthood Teen Clinic in San Francisco offering birth control guidance and contraception to sexually active teens. From 1967 to 1969 about 600 girls under 18 joined group talks. 476 received exams and contraception, with 95 percent prescribed oral pills and five percent diaphragms. The program aims to prevent first out of wedlock pregnancy and emphasizes nonjudgmental support and responsible contraception.
The Tam O Shant ers of Somerset County won the fourth Annual Christmas Parade in Frostburg Maryland earning a sterling silver punch bowl for the corps color captain Barb Hittie and her parents. They also took first prize of 100 dollars in the Drum and Bugle Category and marked the corps 143rd first place since 1959 under Sally and James Spangler.
