Miner Narrowly Escapes Deadly Rockfall at Reading Mine
Boyd Custer, 24, a Stoystown area miner for Reading Coal and Iron, survived a heavy rock and coal dust fall late Thursday. He was briefly trapped but not fatally injured, moved from the mine entrance to a Somerset doctor and then to hospital. Friday evening his condition was listed as good with multiple facial cuts and imbedded coal dust.

Rabies Quarantine Urged After Positive Dog Tests

A head on collision on the Stoystown hill Friday morning at 11 injured several. John H. Grimm of Red Lion York county sustained bruises and contusions. Edith Lauzola Hart of Jersden Tennessee suffered stomach contusions a fractured rib and body contusions. Hilda Ruohoniemi of Houghton Michigan had a nose laceration ankle burns and bruises. Grimm was treated and then detained for improper driving by Jennertown state motor police.

Speck of Rockport Mass. Early Friday a telegram announced the death, with Harrison party believed returning by Monday. Two sons, James III and Frank Speck Harrison, rushed toward Rockport as efforts to locate their parents continued. Funeral services plan set for Rockport next week.

NJ Guard Unit Ordered Out to Camp Dix Training
Teaneck New Jersey August 30. The 104th U S Army Engineers National Guard battalion with headquarters in Teaneck has been ordered to report to Camp Dix for a year of active duty and training. Major John Sharp said orders came from Lieutenant General Hugh A Drum commanding the Second Corps Area. The unit will prepare Camp Dix for other guard units arriving before September 16 and may spend two to three months there before moving to maneuvers elsewhere.
