Somerset County will benefit from a $20,000 state grant to Laurel Highlands, Inc., for regional tourist promotion. Westmoreland and Fayette counties have designated agencies. East German escapee shot as he tried to swim to freedom
Berlin reports Communist East German militiamen killed a man attempting to swim a 60 yard wide canal to freedom near the border of the American sector. The event followed another shooting last Thursday near the old Reichstag area. One other escapee was captured as troops tightened border controls.
