Two Somerset Countians placed high at the 1968 National Plowing Contest in Hershey with Jack Cullen winning sulky class and Robert Decker taking double gang plowing honors using Belgians. York County entrants swept state titles, with Gerald Robert and Dale Robert winning large and small plow classes and Charles Hess winning contour plowing. The event drew about 20,000 as queen crowning and state championships highlighted opening day.

Somerset Fire School Plans Set for September Sessions
Plans are finalizing for the annual Somerset County Firemen's Association fire school at the Pleasant Hill site. It runs September 10 to 12 evenings plus September 15 morning with classes in pumping engineer ladder masks and more. State instructors lead sessions for firefighters from all county departments. prizes donated by local merchants will be awarded September 15. Andrew Schanko of Central City chairs.

Swift Sentenced For Shotgun Holdup
