Father Charged With Cruelty In Mary Chain Case
Emil Powley, a coal miner and WPA worker, is jailed on cruelty charges after a nine year old girl named Mary was found in Smithton with an eight foot chain riveted to her ankle. The chain was removed by a deputy constable who then arrested Powley on orders from Chief Detective Arthur D. Turner. The child stayed at home with her mother and siblings while a hearing is scheduled before Justice N. E. Rhodes. Powley admitted chaining her because she runs away and won't listen.

15 Year Old Boy Hangs Self in Factory Basement
Pittsburgh August 28 A very very nervous 15 year old boy Edward Kosiak hanged himself in the basement of a glass factory. John Holzer an employee found his nude body suspended by a rope from a water pipe the boy's clothing piled nearby doors and windows barred and officers could not learn how he entered the plant. Coroner said the boy had been very very nervous since childhood.
