Route 31 work pushed to next year in Washington Westmoreland
Harrisburg Aug 27 A western Pennsylvania delegation was promised by Highways Secretary E L Schmidt that everything possible will be done to continue work on the new Route 31 in Washington and Westmoreland counties next year. He noted a lack of funds prevents more contracts this year. The project has seen 16 miles completed with 22 5 miles remaining and will connect Washington Pa on U S 40 to the Stanton turnpike interchange. Schmidt cited about 15 million spent and 21 to 35 million more needed with more roadway planned next year as funds allow. Conferees at the governor’s office included U S Sen Edward Martin and four county chairmen. Also Schmidt announced the Schuylkill Expressway between Valley Forge and Philadelphia will open next Wednesday with a 60 mph limit under consideration.

David Eugene Roche 28 an inspector at a city asphalt plant was indicted for the August 14 murder of his wife Dorothy Soyer Roche 23 a pregnant woman.
