Plans for a World War II honor roll monument to be placed on the courthouse lawn received approval from the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars along with county commissioners. Earl Austin designed the marble memorial with a base of ten feet six inches, a seven-foot center tablet, and two four-foot side tablets. sandblasted names will be carved. Cost is estimated at 3000 to 3500 dollars, with posts and county contributions expected to share the expense. Completion aimed for next May.

Charles Evans Hughes Dies at 86 in OsterVille Annex
Former chief justice Charles Evans Hughes, 86, died at 8:35 p m in Oster ville Massachusetts after a prolonged illness. His son Charles Evans Hughes Jr and daughters Mrs William T Gossett and Mrs C A Waddell were at the bedside as he faltered from a heart ailment and long decline. He had retired from the Supreme Court July 1 1941 after a career as governor of New York and secretary of State in Harding and Coolidge administrations.
