To Extend Food Stamps to Statewide Basis
Harrisburg reports the Department of Public Assistance asked federal cooperation to extend the food stamp program to all counties. Transient Found After Night Search by Borough Police
Borough officers spent the night seeking a 50 year old transient in the streets. Chief Jacob C. Pile apprehended him near West Main street as he tried to obtain food from a garbage can. He was jailed in Somerset county and given a hot bath after his clothes were soaked. The man identified as George West from Portage Cambria county had no home and had small change on him. Evidence suggested he slept outside during heavy showers. state police checked Portage district for any missing inmates or identification.
