The Somerset County Fair in Meyersdale closes today with forecasts of sun. Crowds were light on Friday due to overcast and showers but increased by nightfall as rain and cool temperatures persisted. Here are more results from this week's judging.

First, second, and third place winners are named for alfalfa crops grass legumes and hay, with many growers from Frostburg Meyersdale Hollsopple and other towns. Division C details green and wax beans cabbage beets broccoli and several other vegetables with winners from Salisbury Rockwood Meyersdale Garrett Hooversville and more.
The United States posted its second July trade surplus, with exports exceeding imports by 106.1 million. July exports hit a record 5.87 billion while imports fell to 5.76 billion, aiding a 33 percent year to date rise in exports despite a remaining annual deficit.
In downtown Santiago riot police and about a thousand secondary pupils clashed amid tear gas and rock throwing as Chile faces a national transport strike and a cabinet crisis sparked by Army Chief General Prats resignation. Allende refuted the cabinet resignations while appointing General Pinochet as army chief.
Skylab 2 astronauts Jack Lousma and Owen Garriott conducted a spacewalk to install four gyroscope modules on the 85 ton station while Alan Bean remained aboard. The crew aimed to restore attitude control after a nine minute gyroscope outage as technicians noted the modules looked beautiful.
Partly sunny and mild weekend with highs in the mid 70s to around 80 in western Pennsylvania. Saturday night will be fair with lows in the mid 50s to near 60 and winds under 10 mph. Sunday turns warmer with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and mainly southerly breezes. Chance of precipitation remains near zero on Saturday and Saturday night.
Fraternal Association of Steel Haulers leader William J. Hill urged about 65 local members at the 76 Truckstop to reject a Teamsters contract due Aug 31. He argued the proposal would cut hauler pay and warned of possible court action if ballots were inflated and warrants a strike unless negotiations favor FASH members.
In New Orleans U S attorney Gerald Gallinghouse said Edwin M Gaudet former New Orleans policeman had charges of threatening President Nixon dropped. A key witness could not identify Gaudet and the alleged threat was made in a New Orleans drug store on August 15 five days before Nixon spoke at the Veterans of Foreign Wars event. Gaudet had surrendered ending a three day New Mexico manhunt and remained in custody.
Harrisburg AP says Pennsylvania farmers may see a price rise by Sept. 27 under Cost of Living Council regulations. Milk Marketing Board Chairman Harry Kapleau cautioned nothing is firm amid the council's rejection of a 2 cents a quart increase. He bases his outlook on the proposed rules, which would raise prices for dealers and retailers as well.
