The Somerset County Fair attracted the largest afternoon crowd to view the wild animal show dairy judging and exhibit results. 120 cattle entered with 40H FFA and open classes, led by Penn State dairy specialist Donald Ace who called the event excellent and noted strong youth engagement.

Police hunt for two missing fairgoers near Meyersdale fair

Fire destroys barn on A J Walker farm in Somerset area
Five volunteer fire companies fought a Tuesday blaze at the A J Walker farm on Somerset Road north of Somerset. The barn and hay were lost but three silos and a milking parlor were saved. 13 cattle died and over 50 cattle were guided to safety. Fire may have started in hay with air from a barn fan. the two story 20 000 square foot building was one year old and insurance covers the loss.

Teens urged to register at Meyersdale Fair booth
About 500 of 5,000 eligible 18 to 21 year olds in Somerset County have registered per Meyersdale Jaycees. The group runs a booth at Meyersdale Fair Wednesday to Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 pm to boost youth voter registration. Edmonds said courthouse-appointed helpers will assist, with emphasis on the 18 to 21 year bracket. deadline is Sept 13 and those who haven't voted in five years must re register.
