In Hong Kong harbor seven of thirteen crash survivors credit Ng Kam-Shing a 29 year old Chinese boatman with saving them. The U S Marine transport plane carrying 63 Marines and two Navy men sank after takeoff.
Somerset Area Schools will open Tuesday August 31 at 8 38 am for high school and 8 50 am for elementary, with a 1 45 pm dismissal for transport. An August 20 in service day in the senior high auditorium features Dr C Herman Gross of the University of Pittsburgh.

An early morning fire at 511 High Street Meyersdale damaged an unoccupied dwelling on Frank Wilhelm's property. Tealharm sounded shortly after 2 a.m. and two fire units fought the blaze with two hose lines. The structure was ruined and furnishings stored inside were lost. Firemen prevented spread to the Wilhelm home. cause undetermined and damage undated.
