President Nixon held a 50 minute news conference in California defending his Watergate actions and saying the case is water under the bridge. He announced Secretary of State William P. Rogers will resign September 3 and Henry Kissinger will succeed him. He defended Agnew, noted Dean’s allegations, and criticized the Elisberg burglary. He compared past administrations’ wiretapping and pressed that he would not resign.
The Baby Beef Show Grand Champion was a 1090 pound Hereford Steer owned by Terry Lee Bittner of Meyersdale who is twelve years old and also 4H champion. The reserve grand champion went to Lynn Kincaid of Rockwood with a 1085 pound Charolais Hereford cross. Somerset area Girl Scouts plan a Jamesway Plaza event with booths demonstrations and exhibits. A fashion show at the Jamesway store will feature new Junior and Cadette uniforms first shown in the Talus Rock Council. Officials aim to recruit more girls and adults.

Weiss Markets Handy Markets and Pantry Pride kept prices steady. The ruling follows earlier actions by the Milk Marketing Board and a rejected emergency hearing, with the last effective state order dating to 1970.
