A Sunday ceremony in Rockwood burned the mortgage on the 1957 Rockwood Fire Hall. The 42 by 100 foot cement block building on West Main Street has a banquet hall upstairs and cost $35,000 to build. Youth Drowns In North Fork Dam
An 18 year old Johnstown area youth, Robert Wilkinson, drowned Monday in the North Fork Dam at Thomas Mills, northern Somerset County. Ferndale firemen and volunteers found the body shortly before 11 p.m. after a search begun when the four youths swam in the dam afternoon. the other three returned home at 4 p.m. Somerset County Coroner Robert H. Halverson and Sheriff Norman F. Walker attended the scene.

A two year old Meyersdale girl Bonnie Darlene Freas died after being struck by a car in a residential Meyersdale area. Oscar Lloyd Merrbach of Salisbury RD 1 was the driver. The coroner cited a skull fracture and brain injuries. The driver was not charged and an inquest was not held.
