Providence Rhode Island August 22 A three year old girl Eileen Fahey was rescued after spending the night wedged in a 6 inch space between two buildings near her home. Neighbors and police led a large search in Fox Point ending with workers removing the final wall section. The child was conscious when freed and taken to Rhode Island Hospital doing fine.

A head on collision on Route 31 two and a half miles west of Somerset at 10 a.m. Thursday injured Samuel L. Long 50 of Hamilton Ohio and Herbert B. Whipkey 44 of R D 6 Somerset. Long suffered an injured pelvis and Whipkey a possible back injury. Passenger Glen Whippey 12 had bruises. Long car valued about 1000 dollars and Whipkey car about 700 dollars. Both drivers and the boy were treated and released.

Over 2 000 More Pupils Enroll In State High Schools
Harrisburg August 22 an official of the public instruction department predicted that 2 000 more pupils would enroll in Pennsylvania high schools this fall than ever before in history. The department estimated 703 000 high school students for the coming term, surpassing the 1939 40 record. Elementary enrollments are expected to fall behind wartime peaks with about 1 168 000 pupils. Parochial schools rise to nearly 22 percent of state enrollment, up from 14 in 1941 and 10 in 1924.
