Attorney Wilbert H. Beachy Jr. of Somerset has been promoted to major in the U.S. Army Reserve. He left active duty in 1946 as an infantry captain and has served in the reserve since, with headquarters in Johnstown. Beachy, a Penn Law graduate and Somerset native, began service in 1943 and served on Saipan for 13 months in 1945 before joining the general staff in the Western Pacific base command.

Activities included a visit to the Alverno Catholic home farm to inspect Claude Pope Guernsey herd and a dinner in the Blocher barn. cattle judging winners included Ray Ream and Earl Sweitzer in men’s division and Mrs. Jacob Shaffer and Mrs. Ira Lanner in women’s division with several junior and Four H class awards awarded.

Boswell Man Stabbed by Neighbor in Morals Case Dispute
Emil Berg, a 72 year old Boswell retiree, was stabbed in the chest and arm by neighbor Mrs Arlese Hawkins during a morals case dispute.
