Willkie Plans Coffeyville Speech Start Of Campaign
Wendell L. Willkie said he would open his formal speechmaking campaign in Coffeyville Kansas in mid September and then tour the west coast starting in Los Angeles. He spoke at the home of his mother in law Mrs Cora Wilk and said he would stay in Rushville through Wednesday while planning an itinerary and future speeches. He named Senator H Styles Bridges to respond to Ickes and predicted a radio reply from Ickes tomorrow night. Willkie has not heard from Washington about debates with Roosevelt and will likely move through the Midwest and East after the West Coast leg. He slept well after returning from Elwood and rose early with his son.
