Bandit Shot In Highway Robbery Encounter Near Harrisburg
A National Guard convoy returning from Manassas halted an attempted highway robbery near Harrisburg. One bandit was wounded, another fled. the injured man, about 45, unidentified, is in a local hospital not expected to live. Insurer Moorshead, 52, of Renttown, Berks, was beaten and treated for scalp injuries after a struggle for a .22 revolver. Guardsmen pursued the fleeing bandits and found a gun and revolver at the scene. Police and state authorities continue to investigate the hospital shooting and identify the weapon used. Russell Kiell later identified the wounded suspect as one of two men who robbed him on August 4.

In Derry township a run-away horse toppled a spring wagon carrying 6 year old William Byers and cousin Tracy Gilbert. William died at a hospital from a head wound caused by the wagon wheel iron.
