Somerset mining inspector Fletcher W. Cunningham ordered the Royal Quemahoning Coal Company No. 2 heading closed after a rock fall killed 38 year old miner Lawrence Ryman near Stoystown. Foreman H A Metz and four other miners faced questions as the roof’s faulty condition and lack of testing were cited. Ryman’s colleague Howard Sarver escaped injury and summoned help. Funeral services for Ryman will be held Sunday at Geiger Church of the Brethren.

Father Son Both Injured in Open Car Crash Near Emerald Park
William A. Beddard aged 47 of Pittsburgh and his 12 year old son Richard were injured when their open car left the Lincoln highway near Emerald Park. Beddard suffered two rib fractures facial lacerations and body bruises and remained at Somerset Community Hospital in non grave condition. His son received minor injuries and was treated by a physician. State motor police investigated and said the car left the road while rounding a right hand curve and struck a rear bumper of a car driven by Ernest P. Landis of Central City traveling in the opposite direction.
