State funding discussed for proposed park and pool
A Thursday meeting at Cambria Savings and Loan discussed state aid for a Borough pool and park. John Musselman of the Department of Community Affairs said $6 per capita aid is available, or $12 per capita if Somerset Borough joins nearby townships in a single request. An intergovernmental agreement is required with shared maintenance terms and a pledge from the department within a week. Initial funding could reach about $192,000, about half the project cost, with final plans needing state and Art Commission approvals.

Over six days three cars struck fire hydrants in Somerset. Fleming Casebeer, 68, left Tayman Avenue 600 block, hit hydrant and utility pole causing 250 and 650 dollars in damages and head lacerations for the driver.
