Costello In Jail To Begin His Sentence

Boy Killed On Turnpike In Somerset Area Collision
Robert T. Bartek 15 of Chartiers Terrace Bldg Carnegie died after a three-vehicle turnpike crash five miles east of the Somerset interchange in the Negro Cut area. The collision at 6:45 p m sent Bartek by ambulance to Somerset Community Hospital where he died. No other occupant was injured though two cars were badly damaged. The car Bartek rode in was driven by Edward Scanlon 31, adopted father of the deceased and son of former U S Congressman Thomas C Scanlon, linked to Union Supply Co as assistant purchasing agent. Faye H Hickman 38 of Wilkinsburg a research engineer drove a late model car. The third vehicle was a flat bed truck loaded with machinery from Central Chemical Corp Harrisonburg Virginia operated by Jesse Raymond Howdy shell 29 of Hinton Virginia. The Hickman car eastbound tried to pass the Howdy shell truck in the outside lane. Howdy shell said he was already in the inside lane about 12 feet into that lane. The report continues on Page Two.
