The CIO National Maritime Union says 25 organized and 15 unorganized ships were tied up on the Great Lakes in the first day of a walkout aimed at paralyzing ore coal grain and oil traffic. One Arrest For Beating Shipleys
Vernon Joseph, 24, was captured at his uncle's home after days in the woods and admitted to beating Irvin Shipley 70 and Rebecca Shipley 64 at their farm Tuesday night. The couple, hospitalized, were released home to tend the farm. Police seek a second suspect. Joseph says motive was robbery.

Seek Habeas Corpus For M. Andolino In Murder Case
Attorney Samuel R. DiFrancesco said he will file a habeas corpus petition if no charge is filed against Mike Andolino by this morning. German Rocket Crashes to Earth at White Sands
A German V-2 rocket fired by army technicians crashed at White Sands proving grounds in New Mexico. No casualties were reported. Lt. Col. Harold R.
