First Army Short on Tanks Guns and Rifles in 1944 Assessment
Ogdensburg August 1544. A field survey shows the First Army with about 90,000 men faces equipment shortages. Only 12 tanks exist against a need for 126, 18 anti-tank guns on hand versus 162 needed, 24 of 150‑mm howitzers against 168 required, 96 obsolete 90‑mm guns, 4,200 Garand rifles against about 25,50 total, and mortars and machine guns also lacking across the division.

Kingsbury Samuel Electric Company Wins Rural Line Contract
The Kingsbury Samuel Electric Company of Baltimore was the low bidder on 180 miles of new electric lines in Somerset County Pennsylvania and Garrett County Maryland. Directors of the Somerset Rural Electric Corporation approved the construction contract for $157,128.34 after bids were checked by engineers Putnam and Wolpert. The lines will serve about 516 members.
