Somerset county agencies and towns voted Tuesday night to stage a county wide caravan and float display to celebrate the Pennsylvania turnpike dedication on Labor Day. A county committee led by hk A Stoughton Jr was named to plan with subcommittees from Meyersdale Berlin Confluence Windber Rockwood and other towns.

Bandits kill watchman in coal breaker robbery
Three bandits in a stolen blue sedan shot and killed night watchman Edward Fromme 62 of Minersville at the Old Mill Breaker near Pottsville. They grabbed $4 from Fromme and his helper Raymond Holley, who hid $237. The car was found abandoned near Reading with damage and a blood spot on a door. Holley’s account described a three-man stickup after parking in Philadelphia. Police launched a widespread search.

John Kozel, 13, drowned today in the Taylor Coal company supply dam near Gallitzin. He disappeared while swimming with companions. Coroner Patrick McDermott praised Francis and Charles Dybus for recovering the body after more than 15 minutes of diving into the 30 foot deep pond.

Two Homes Burn In Centerville
Two homes in New Centerville were burned late Tuesday evening by a fire of unknown origin. The blaze, reaching to a large extent, prompted caulding by the Somerset and Rockwood departments at 10 30 p m. The fire started in a three room house tenanted by Mr Marx and spread rapidly to a six room house owned by his landlord L Cramer. Both residences were completely burned with several sewing machines and other furniture salvaged or destroyed. Estimated damage stands at 3500 with part covered by insurance.

Dynamite Suspect Dies In Pool Self-Explode Tragedy
In Laceyville, the dynamite shattered body of Charles Christian, 37, was found in a pool on Silvara property after a blast drew neighbors. Coroner A E Dann stated Christian apparently laid on the diving board and used a dry cell to detonate dynamite in his jacket pocket. He had been in poor health for some time.

Earl H. Burkett a 19 year old Somerset laborer was committed to the county jail on larceny charges by Borough Policeman Jake Pile. The information was filed before Justice of the Peace Charles J. Harrison of Somerset and a preliminary hearing is planned in the next few days. Burkett is accused of stealing a drill a vise and miscellaneous equipment from a shop belonging to The Berkey of Somerset.
