Richard Gilbert 73 longtime secretary treasurer of United Mine Workers District 2 died in a Clearfield hospital after four weeks illness and kidney surgery. Derailment of City of San Francisco Kills 20 in Nevada Sabotage Suspected
A Southern Pacific streamliner wrecked 20 miles west of Carlin Nevada killing 20 and injuring about 60. Coroner and railroad officials say sabotage caused a misplaced rail. Investigators found crowbars and rails moved four inches inward near the bridge over the Humboldt River. The train was on a Chicago to Oakland schedule and the posterior cars plunged from the track.
