Woman Slain in Berth on Golden State Limited
An elderly Iowa woman, Mrs A C Park of Grinnell, was murdered in her lower berth aboard the Southern Pacific Golden State Limited as it moved through Arizona. Discharged railroad worker Howard Lantz, 28, confessed after police questioned him, saying he acted in a drunken frenzy. A marble World War II memorial honoring 360 Somerset County service men was erected on the courthouse lawn after rain. The base was poured weeks earlier and the site cleared. The monument, designed by Earl Austin, will be officially unveiled August 14 on the west side of the courthouse plaza.
