Murderous shotgun blast ends Hooversville miner life
40 year old Ralph Pardo, a Spain native and Hooversville resident since 1930, was shot from a passing car and died on Maple Grove street. Detectives from Somerset and state police questioned neighbors, but no motive or killer identified. Autopsy planned. body found near Meyers avenue. time of shot 1:45 to 2:15 AM.

A blaze swept a Bucks county toll house home killing five children while Ernest Love a WPA foreman and his wife Pauline evacuated. The couple saved one child Hardy while Pauline escaped through a window after being badly burned. The fire began in an out kitchen as Mrs Love heated bath water on a kerosene stove.
