Walker a Washington Pa native and nephew of Somerset residents Isaac and Mrs Cornell saved seven crewmembers when the X1-A rocket plane exploded in the bomber during a test over Edwards Air Force Base California. Walker cut fuel lines and vented fuel to prevent a second blast then escaped with oxygen loss and was pulled to safety by the bomber crew.
