Coleman targets stable year round jobs at Somerset camping trailer plant

Coleman says Somerset plant will reach steady 12 month employment as production doubles since last year. He cites improved labor relations and a 450 worker level as signs of stability, while noting some layoffs in the past. At Seven Springs Jamboree he forecasts further gains and aims to be the biggest camping trailer firm and No 1 in the field.

Somerset Scenic at Arts and Crafts Exhibit in Alexis Park

Somerset County Artists Association hosts a one day arts and crafts event during Coleman Days at Alexis Park. Visitors can view Jeanne Berkey and Walter Bowen in a Grant Wood like American Gothic inspired cardboard tableau and watch weaving ceramics macrame pottery demos. Grounds open at 9 30 a m with free admission.

Sprinkler Rule Change Cuts Costs for Aged Home

Somerset County Home for the Aged will not require a sprinkler system after a decision by the Industrial Board. If the architect certifies fire resistive construction, the building may skip sprinklers saving about $200,000. Smoke barriers along the 150 foot corridor remain required and life safety checks were conducted to avoid withholding medical payments starting Sept. 1, 1973.
