John W. Collins of Connellsville is slated for acclamation as department commander of Pennsylvania American Legion at the Harrisburg convention Aug. 7 8 10. He will succeed Joseph Gavenonis with the nomination Aug. 9 and election Aug. 10. Collins a WWII veteran and longtime Legionnaire has held multiple posts and chairs, with strong endorsements statewide. Edward T. Hoak of Manor will be western district vice commander, nominated and elected Friday. Three contested posts include central vice commander Earl Sollenberger vs J Ben Dobson and eastern vice commander Theodore Hinger vs George Bruno. Seconding talks to follow Thursday.

Assault and Robbery Target Blind Grocer in Frostburg
State police search two men for the assault and robbery of 66 year old Charles Murphy who operates a neighborhood grocery at Wrights Crossing. Murphy was beaten with a board and robbed of 10 dollars after a doorstep visit. He is hospitalized with injuries to wrists and ankles. A neighbor discovered the crime yesterday.

Eight Crow Indian boys confess killing their father
In Crosby Minnesota Ira Aamodt 24? led his brothers William 13 and Richard 15 to murder their father Ollie Aamodt 57 with a .22 rifle after claiming years of brutal treatment. The two older boys aided in the plot while Ira later guided Richard to the scene. Mrs Aamodt testified she would stand by the boys. The confession was signed in her presence. Sheriff Roy Wickland said Ira orchestrated the plan since June. The body was found the day after the July 26 shooting.
