At Fairfield SUI san air base California a bomb laden B 29 crashed burned and exploded killing 17 and injuring 60 with two listed missing. Major Lloyd Hill, a 32 year old riverman from Ontario, rode a stainless steel barrel over the Niagara River rapids in a five mile run. He emerged smiling but bruised and plans another attempt over the falls on September 10 using a new barrel after the first one was battered. Mother And Child Hurt In Crash At Reading Mine
A mother Reada Cugini age 30 and her eight year old daughter Barbara Ann of Friedens were injured at the rail road crossing near Reading mine south of Stoystown Saturday afternoon. Joseph Cugini waited at the crossing as Fred Eugene Zarefoss 21 of Cleveland Ohio struck Cugini then hit the train. Zarefoss was arrested for drunken driving. Damages listed 800 for Zarefoss vehicle and 250 for Cugini vehicle. Three people were killed at this crossing last year.
