The Somerset American society editor invites Somerset city and county residents to share guest entertainments, parties, and out of town visits. Marriage notices mailed or delivered should be signed. anonymous wedding notices will not be published. The office phone is 164.
A birthday party was given recently for Howard Nicklow who was 19. He received gifts as games were played and refreshments served. Attendants included numerous Nicklow family members and friends such as Mr. and Mrs. William Nicklow and Mr. and Mrs. Archie Farnley among others.
The Stonycreek township high school class of 1946 met at the school picnic grounds on Sunday August 3. Supper was at 6 30 pm and the evening featured games and songs in the school auditorium. A memorial service for Raymona Wilt, missing in Alaska while stationed with the navy, was held. Attending were Mary Yoder Brant Janet Mostoller Dickey Evangeline Baltzer Emily Callihan Berniece Mosteller Betty Landis Helen Nifert James Spangler Fred Zecizler William Pile Donald Lowry and Edward Platt plus Blair Walker Edward Denner Herbert Walker Robert Walker DeVon Walker and guests Helen Burkett Elaine McKay Paul Dickey Jr Charles Rhoads John Callihan William Baltzer plans for annual reunions were discussed.
Miss Mary E Taylor daughter of Mr and Mrs Earley Taylor and a senior in the University of Pennsylvania nurses training school spends ten days with her parents at Pine Haven before leaving for North Carolina to complete six months in a federal hospital. She was part of the 1944 Somerset high school graduation class.
Mrs. Robert Lebo and Mrs. Norton Martin travel week at Lake Erie while Major Kantner and family visit from Durham. Russell Rose, James Gettings party visit Washington area. Charlotte Patterson visits sister Effie Rhoads. Mae Jean Picking visits Bryn Mawr family. Helen Bishop visits parents in Somerset. Shaulis siblings tour Baltimore and Washington. Morton returns from New York after aiding burial procession.
Mrs Charles W Walker of the B alls Apartments hosted the Wednesday fridge club at 2 pm Mrs Walter O Sipe of North Kimberly avenue welcomed her club and guests to a picnic at the Sipe cabin near Rockwood and Mrs Nellie Welsh of West Patriot street entertained the S C club with cards and refreshments at 8 pm
Richard Louther of West Main street remains in grave condition following a recent operation at Somerset Community Hospital. He has served as an executive at the V F W home on West Union street since it opened over a year ago.

In a postwar policy speech Prime Minister Attlee outlined targets to raise exports to 150 percent of 1938 by 1948 end and require job seekers to move to essential industry. The Trades Union Congress endorsed the plan with caveats while government moves to curb spives and drones. Agriculture would gain a 20 percent increase in domestic food production by 1951-52 as part of recovery. Attlee cautioned that Britain faces peril from a world dollar shortage and war aftermath, yet hoped Marshall aid may assist the recovery.
The Dock Street disruption ended after dealers agreed to the AFL demand that the starting time rule be observed. The long deadlock between dealers and the union over organizing office workers deepened, slowing fruit and produce shipments to Philadelphia. The program included songs, devotions, and a world conference report by Kathryn Bowman. Moving pictures showed WCTU work. 17 county honorary members were noted. A Loyal Temperance region formed in Shanksville last week. State convention set for September 22 26.

Descendants of John Deeter plan the 26th annual basket picnic reunion on Sunday August 10 at the old Deeter's Gap farm on Allegheny mountain. The Lambert reunion also on August 10 gathers at Shanksville Grove with basket picnic. Kennell School reunion on August 31 at Hyndman Route 1 includes teachers former pupils and friends with picnic and entertainment.
