Hundreds of trucks operate in Somerset County forests transporting pit props into flat mines while pickets from CIO fail to disrupt the work, enabling steady supply.
Trucks carry mine props into Fayette and Somerset counties with no incidents. State police report hundreds of loads moving through highways while CIO leaders threaten actions against trucking firms and UMW hints at sympathy strikes amid ongoing labor dispute.
Two cars collided head on at a highway intersection near Dubois killing Mrs. Minnie C. Howe of Glen Brook Conn. Her husband William C. Howe and Mr and Mrs Morris Schiebel of Youngstown Ohio were taken to a hospital with possible internal injuries.

ACWA a CIO affiliate used a tent on a vacant lot across from Meyersdale shirt factory as its base for wage demand. The owner’s representative said the strikers removed the tent and most workers returned to the factory, aided by limited state police presence and sheriff cooperation.
A Sharpsville woman failed to report her husband John Marquardt aged 71 after his death kept undiscovered for three days. Neighbors found him in a chair. coroner Dr. James Biggins said he died Saturday. Surviving relatives include F. F. Marquardt, superintendent at the Clairton plant of Carnegie Illinois Steel.
Henry Holder aged 22 of Quecreek was committed to the county jail on forgery and malicious mischief charges before Squire Charles J. Harrison Jr. of Somerset. He said he signed his father's name on a relief check and that his father cannot write and placed an X beneath the signature. He admitted cashing the check. Holder claimed others in the household and neighbors instigated his arrest.
Funeral services for Mrs. Charles B. Menold wife of the Meadville Evening Republican news editor will be held tomorrow at 3 p m She died yesterday after a long illness Survivors include her husband who is circulation manager of the Tribune newspapers and her father.
A Friday evening reception at the Somerset Art Center welcomes the public to honor Alexander J. Kostellow Esther Topp Edmonds Kindred McLeary and William Shockey. A Boynton family escaped their home about 3 Tuesday morning as flames from undetermined origin leveled the eight room frame house owned by Walter Denicker, a former Somerset County umpire. Loss estimated between 3500 and 4000 dollars. Firefighters from Salisbury and Meyersdale arrived late. water supply limited, flames consumed the structure.
Edward McKeever an 11 year old newsboy was fatally injured when he fell from a truck. He suffered a fractured skull after initial treatment in a physician's office and remained in serious condition before dying at a hospital.
Six year old Bobby Conley son of Reverend Clause S. Conley pastor at Dormont Presbyterian church drowned on Lake Erie at a Geneva Ohio resort. He wandered away from his swimming family and was later found on the beach. He is survived by his parents two sisters and a brother.
Somerset merchants announce a fifth Suburban Day with unusual bargains for the first Thursday of August. The Somerset Bus Company offers reduced round trip fares to encourage visits to Somerset from the county seat. Fourteen firms including McCrory's and Schenck's department store participate in the sales event.
Louis Padgett, a former Dewey investigator, was captured by about 30 troopers near the Manhattan prosecutor Thomas E. Dewey's summer home in Pa lling New York. He had threatened Dewey's life and kept a loaded gun and police dog in his car. A Dewey spokesman said there were no threats to the district attorney.
Reuben Robinson a Curwensville merchant convicted of burglary seeks bail while appealing. Judge Thomas J Baldridge reserved decision after a hearing in Hollidaysburg where Robinson received four to eight years and a $2000 fine for the $9000 fur theft from Clearfield Taxidermy.
Gasoline prices at Brooklyn and Queens stations edged up by a half to one cent per gallon as distributors foresee a broader rise across 17 eastern states. A German war reporter described last night's air raid on Moscow hitting the White Ruthenian railway station. Bombs tore up rails, locomotives, and cars, tossing entire trains from the tracks. a large gas tank also exploded.
